Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1415: plot the fix.

At 1415 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 080°M and Westfield church spire bears 326°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
