Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 13004
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1745: plot the fix.
At 1745 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 188°M and Westfield church spire bears 310°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "1" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
