Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 132005

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1405: plot the fix.

At 1405 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 270°M and Mill stack bears 159°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "1" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
