Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 132007
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1040: plot the fix.
At 1040 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 191°M and Westfield church spire bears 305°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
