Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 139005
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0810: plot the fix.
At 0810 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 324°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 084°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
