Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 160003
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1625: plot the fix.
At 1625 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 301°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 061°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Mill stack to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
