Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 2006

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0955: plot the fix.

At 0955 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 241°M and Heron Point Light bears 186°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
