Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1405: plot the fix.

At 1405 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 246°M and Kittle water tank bears 184°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Bell buoy "HS" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
