Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 215008

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1530: plot the fix.

At 1530 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Kittle water tank bears 154°M and Mill stack bears 223°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
