Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 22001

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0755: plot the fix.

At 0755 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 002°M and Heron Point Light bears 278°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Kittle water tank to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
