Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 22007

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0900: plot the fix.

At 0900 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 126°M and Mill stack bears 218°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
