Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 226005
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1005: plot the fix.
At 1005 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 321°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 087°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Heron Point Light to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
