Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 23001
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0835: plot the fix.
At 0835 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 130°M and Westfield church spire bears 235°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "3" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
