Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 232003

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1505: plot the fix.

At 1505 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Kittle water tank bears 198°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 264°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Bell buoy "HS" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
