Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 25002
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1415: plot the fix.
At 1415 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 256°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 128°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "3" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
