Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 256003
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1115: plot the fix.
At 1115 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 058°M and Westfield church spire bears 301°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Mill stack to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
