Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 26005
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1245: plot the fix.
At 1245 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 236°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 120°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
