Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 27007

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1145: plot the fix.

At 1145 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 324°M and Heron Point Light bears 274°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "1" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
