Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 29004

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1120: plot the fix.

At 1120 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Westfield church spire bears 286°M and Mill stack bears 170°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "1" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
