Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 30002

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0940: plot the fix.

At 0940 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 160°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 099°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
