Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 3007

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0935: plot the fix.

At 0935 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 268°M and Westfield church spire bears 318°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "1" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
