Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 32001

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1525: plot the fix.

At 1525 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 215°M and Mill stack bears 153°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "1" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
