Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 32002

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1545: plot the fix.

At 1545 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 195°M and Westfield church spire bears 260°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
