Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 4008

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 0910: plot the fix.

At 0910 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 216°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 121°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Green can "3" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
