Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 45002

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1535: plot the fix.

At 1535 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 201°M and Heron Point Light bears 274°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
