Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 48003

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1330: plot the fix.

At 1330 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Kittle water tank bears 201°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 258°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Bell buoy "HS" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
