Dividers: drag from one point to another on the chart

Start a drag on a charted object or buoy and it snaps to it. The readout gives the true bearing (and magnetic, 7°W) from where you start to where you are, and the distance in nautical miles.

Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 5004

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1640: plot the fix.

At 1640 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 209°M and Westfield church spire bears 270°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
