Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 58007
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1310: plot the fix.
At 1310 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 208°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 136°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
