Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 6007
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1225: plot the fix.
At 1225 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 122°M and Westfield church spire bears 241°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
