Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 65006
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1730: plot the fix.
At 1730 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 168°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 109°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
