Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 69002
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1650: plot the fix.
At 1650 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 117°M and Mill stack bears 169°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
