Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 70001

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1550: plot the fix.

At 1550 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 167°M and Heron Point Light bears 220°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
