Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 7002

Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1305: plot the fix.

At 1305 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Heron Point Light bears 218°M and Mill stack bears 165°M.

Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Red nun "2" to the fix, and the distance.

Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
