Skill 4 · Two-bearing fixProblem 79005
Two hand-bearing compass bearings at 1340: plot the fix.
At 1340 you take two bearings with a hand-bearing compass: Mill stack bears 220°M and Gannet Rock daybeacon bears 112°M.
Variation is 7°W (from the rose); a hand-bearing compass held away from the boat's steel is taken to have no deviation. Convert to true, plot the two lines of position, and give the fix as the true bearing FROM Tern Island tower to the fix, and the distance.
Tolerance: 2° and 0.15 nm (or 4 % of the distance).
